The syllabus is a list of the requirements for the progression through the coloured belt system.
The coloured belt system indicates the rank of karate students. It was "borrowed" from judo practitioners by Gichin Funakoshi (brought karate to attention of the world) when he opened his karate schools. The belts are ranked by skill level attained (kyu):
