A Visit To Felixstowe Karate Club

Northgate club members had a good hard-working session down at Felixstowe on Tuesday evening. We were invited to train with Paul Mortimer and his students who gave us a warm welcome.

Drawing from his wealth of experience and dedication as an instructor it was interesting to see Paul’s way of teaching, which is not far from Bill’s, and together they produced a constructive and enjoyable session.

They managed to fit in a bit of everything in the one and a half hours.

The lesson began with a warm-up of fun team-races as we mixed in with the Felixstowe students. Bill led the stretching and took us through some very strenuous strength exercises. While Paul kept us on our toes with incredibly brain-taxing combinations! And with the input of both instructors we were pushed to our limits.

The extra long lesson was flying by and it wasn’t long before we were into free-sparring -with a twist! Paul had us all paired with his students (many of them brown belts!) and we ended up sparring up to three to one!

I think we all had a good lesson (though I’m sure we are all aching now!), and have come away having learnt knew skills and experience.

Our thanks go to Paul Mortimer and his students for sharing with us their session, in what was a worthwhile and enjoyable experience for all.
